Marseille Private Jet Charter Flights
A lot of business in Marseille comes back to shipping. CMA CGM, the world’s third-largest container line, has its headquarters in the 482-ft Zaha Hadid tower above the port. The old docks around it at La Joliette are now Euroméditerranée. It’s France’s third-largest business district, home to about 5,300 companies.
If you’re meeting the cargo side of the business, keep in mind that the main port is at Fos-sur-Mer, about an hour northwest. Marseille Provence Airport is closer to Fos than the city center is, so you can land and drive straight there.
What Does a Private Jet to Marseille Cost?
It mostly comes down to the jet and the distance. A light jet from Paris or Geneva is the cheapest option. A heavy jet from New York or Miami can cost over $100,000 one way.
There’s one extra cost to know about in France. Since March 2025, every passenger on a private jet departing France pays a solidarity tax: €420 per passenger for flights within Europe and €2,100 for long-haul flights, such as Marseille to New York. Flights into Marseille aren’t taxed, only the flight out. Domestic flights, such as Marseille to Paris, also carry 10% VAT.
Prices go up in July and August and during the Cannes and Monaco events, when jets across the Riviera book up early. If no aircraft is based near you, positioning will add to the price. With an empty leg you can save a lot, if your dates are flexible.
Private Jet Airports near Marseille
Most private flights to Marseille land at Marseille Provence. It’s the only nearby airport open around the clock. For Toulon or the coast to the east, Toulon-Hyères puts you closer, and smaller jets can also use Le Castellet, up in the hills behind the coast.
- Marseille Provence (MRS) is in Marignane, about 17 miles northwest of the city, or roughly 30 minutes on the motorway. It’s open around the clock and has an 11,483-ft runway. Flights from outside the Schengen area, including the US and the UK, clear customs here.
- Toulon-Hyères (TLN) has a 6,959-ft runway and customs on site. It works on weekdays only, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in winter and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in summer, and private flights need four hours’ prior permission.
- Le Castellet (CTT) is the closest airport to Le Castellet, Bandol and the hills behind the coast, as long as your jet fits its 4,872-ft runway. It’s open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in winter and until 6 p.m. in summer. It only accepts flights from within the Schengen area and needs 24 hours’ notice, so arrivals from the UK or the US stop at Marseille first.
FBO Services at Marseille Airports
- General Aviation Terminal: Private passengers at Marseille Provence have their own terminal, with an FBO that’s open 24 hours. If you need to meet someone before you fly on, there’s an executive lounge and meeting rooms.
- Customs and Immigration: Passport and customs checks are in the same building, including for flights arriving straight from the US or the UK. Most passengers are through and on their way to the car quickly.
- Aircraft Handling: Marseille Provence doesn’t ask for a landing slot. It does require a ground handler for every private flight, and we book that when we book your jet. Catering for the flight and hotel rooms for the crew can be arranged through the FBO as well.
- Ground Transportation: A driver can be waiting outside to take you into Marseille or straight on to Aix-en-Provence or Cassis.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do US citizens need a visa to fly privately to Marseille?
No, as long as you’re in France for less than 90 days, whether it’s for work or a vacation. Your passport has to be valid for three months beyond the day you leave the Schengen area, and the State Department recommends six.
Can I fly nonstop from the US to Marseille?
Yes. It’s about 3,390 nm (about 3,900 miles) from New York to Marseille Provence, which a heavy jet flies in roughly 7 hours 25 minutes to 8 hours 25 minutes.
Can I fly from the US straight to Le Castellet?
No. Le Castellet only accepts flights from within the Schengen area, so a transatlantic flight lands at Marseille Provence first to clear customs. From there, it’s a short hop on to Le Castellet, or you can go on by car.
