Semiconductor manufacturing is a major industry in the Capital Region. GlobalFoundries is headquartered in Saratoga County and has planned an $11.6 billion expansion of its Fab 8 site in Malta, which already employs about 2,500 people. In Cleveland, Sherwin-Williams opened its new global headquarters downtown in May 2026, a campus with a 36-story office tower. State agencies in Albany and corporate offices in both cities make this a practical route for business travel.
No airline flies nonstop between Albany and Cleveland, so a commercial trip includes a connection and usually takes four hours or more. A charter flies direct in about an hour and a half or less by jet. You land at Burke Lakefront on the Lake Erie shore, a few minutes from downtown Cleveland.

Albany
- Albany International Airport (ALB): 6 miles northwest of Albany, 8,500-ft runway, control tower open around the clock, international airport of entry, Million Air FBO, preferred departure for this route

Saratoga County Airport is the closest airfield to the GlobalFoundries campus in Malta, but it’s smaller than the two airports above.
Cleveland
- Burke Lakefront Airport (BKL): 1 mile north of downtown Cleveland on Lake Erie, 6,604-ft runway, control tower open around the clock on weekdays, the closest airport to downtown, preferred arrival for this route
- Cuyahoga County Airport (CGF): 10 miles east of Cleveland, 5,502-ft runway with an ILS approach, control tower open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., Cleveland Jet Center FBO, convenient for the eastern suburbs

Private Jets for Charter Flights between Albany & Cleveland
Turboprops
The route is entirely over land, and on a trip of about 360 nautical miles, a turboprop takes only about half an hour longer than a jet. It’s the least expensive option for two to four passengers, and it can use all four airports listed above, including Cuyahoga County’s shorter runway.
Light Jets
A light jet suits a small team on a day trip, such as a state official visiting a Cleveland employer or a supplier heading to a downtown headquarters. The cabin is comfortable for a flight of under an hour and a half. Since Burke Lakefront is next to downtown, you can be in a meeting soon after landing.
Midsize Jets
A midsize jet seats six to eight passengers and has more headroom than a light jet, plus an enclosed lavatory. It’s a good fit for a project team traveling between a Capital Region fab and a supplier in Northeast Ohio, or for a group that wants to review documents on the way.
Super Midsize Jets
Super-midsize jets have stand-up cabins, large baggage holds, and in most cases Wi-Fi. On a flight this short they save little time, so people book them for the space, for example a leadership team holding a meeting on board or a group carrying presentation materials or equipment.
Heavy Jets
A heavy jet carries the largest groups, such as a board of directors or a company delegation. Both Burke Lakefront’s 6,604-ft runway and Albany International’s 8,500-ft runway can handle these aircraft. Cuyahoga County’s runway is shorter, so the operator will usually plan a heavy jet’s arrival at Burke or Hopkins.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Burke Lakefront Airport closing?
Not at this time. Burke Lakefront is open and serves business jets. Cleveland’s mayor wants to close the airport and redevelop the lakefront, but in August 2026 the FAA administrator said the agency wouldn’t allow the closure. Under its federal and state grant obligations, the city must keep the airport open until 2039 unless the FAA grants a waiver or Congress acts. If the situation changes, we’ll route your flight to Cuyahoga County or Hopkins.
Are there nonstop airline flights from Albany to Cleveland?
No. Every airline itinerary between Albany and Cleveland includes a connection and usually takes four hours or more. A private jet flies the route nonstop in about an hour and a half or less.
Should I fly out of Albany International or Schenectady County?
Albany International is closer to Albany, has a longer runway, and its tower is open around the clock. Schenectady County is closer to Schenectady and Saratoga County and has less airline traffic. Its 7,001-ft runway suits most business jets, but its tower closes overnight.
