PrivateJet.com arranges Calgary to Houston private jet charter flights on demand between Canada’s energy capital and the center of the U.S. energy industry.
Calgary is home to the head offices of Cenovus, Suncor, Canadian Natural Resources, and TC Energy. Plenty of their business ends up in Houston, at a board meeting downtown or a deal review in the Energy Corridor. That link isn’t new. When WestJet started flying the route nonstop in 2015, it called Calgary–Houston the most-requested route among its corporate clients in Western Canada.
By jet, the charter takes three and a half to four and a half hours, nonstop, and leaves when you’re ready. You land at Hobby, seven miles from downtown. A U.S. Customs officer meets the aircraft on the ramp, and once the inspection is done, you walk to your car. Houston runs an hour ahead of Calgary. Leave at 9 a.m., and you’ll be on the ground around 2 p.m., with time for an afternoon meeting and dinner with a client. The airline flights from Calgary all land at Bush Intercontinental, 23 miles north of the city.

Private Jets for Charter Flights between Calgary & Houston
Light Jets
At more than 1,500 nautical miles, this route is near the edge of a light jet’s range. Two or three people traveling light can often fly nonstop. With a full cabin or heavy bags, though, expect a short fuel stop, which adds time and cost.
Midsize Jets
For most business groups on this route, a midsize jet is the practical place to start. It flies nonstop with six to eight passengers and their bags, and on a four-hour flight the near-standing cabin and enclosed lavatory make a real difference.
Super Midsize Jets
A super-midsize jet has standing headroom, a baggage hold big enough for a longer stay, and Wi-Fi on most aircraft, so a team can work through the flight. It also carries more range in reserve than a midsize, which is useful on the return north to Calgary, when the flight usually runs into headwinds.
Heavy Jets
A heavy jet suits a board or several families traveling together, with a cabin divided into separate zones so some can work while others rest, and usually a flight attendant on board.
Ultra Long Range Jets
An ultra-long-range jet is the fastest aircraft on this route, but it has far more range than the trip needs. It makes sense when Houston is one stop on a longer trip, such as continuing on to Mexico or South America.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I clear U.S. customs on a private flight from Calgary?
When you land in Houston. Private flights can’t preclear U.S. customs in Canada, so you clear on arrival at an airport with CBP service. At Hobby, CBP’s general aviation office is staffed 24 hours a day, and an officer meets the aircraft on the ramp. Sugar Land also has customs available, arranged in advance.
Can I depart from Springbank instead of Calgary International?
For light and midsize jets, often yes. Springbank is west of the city and has no airline traffic. Its 5,000-ft runway at almost 4,000 ft elevation limits larger aircraft on a long flight, though, so super-midsize, heavy, and ultra-long range jets usually leave from Calgary International.
When is demand highest on this route?
July. The Calgary Stampede draws a surge of visitors to the city, and Statistics Canada reports that air arrivals from the United States traditionally peak that month. If you’re flying during the Stampede, book early.
