Basel Private Jet Charter Flights
Basel is the third-largest city in Switzerland. It sits on the Rhine, right where Switzerland, France, and Germany meet.
Most people fly private for business: two of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies – Roche and Novartis – have their headquarters here. So, Basel witnesses a steady flow of pharma executives, scientists, and investors throughout the year.
Others come for art, since the city has more than 40 museums with spectacular collections of renowned works. The busiest time of year is June, when Art Basel brings leading galleries and collectors from around the world to the Messe. In late February or March, the city celebrates Basel Fasnacht, Switzerland’s largest three-day carnival recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage event. And in late October, top tennis players come to the Swiss Indoors tournament at St. Jakobshalle.

Private Jet Airports near Basel, Switzerland
EuroAirport is the world’s only binational airport and the only one near Basel that suits private jets. It’s run jointly by France and Switzerland, and its Swiss sector connects to Basel by a customs road. So, you don’t need to cross a border on the drive into town.
- EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg (BSL/MLH): the airport for almost every private flight to and from Basel. It’s located on French soil, about 4 miles northwest of the city, and the drive to central Basel takes approximately 15 minutes. With the main runway of about 12,800 ft long, it can take any business jet you book. The terminal is split into a Swiss sector (BSL) and a French sector (MLH), each with its own customs.
FBO Services at EuroAirport
Private jet passengers have their own terminal with a VIP lounge, so you can wait in comfort before boarding. Customs clearance takes place on site, allowing air charter clients to complete passport control in only a few minutes. Those departing from EuroAirport can also use valet parking services.
Switzerland is part of the Schengen Area but not the EU, so customs follow Swiss rules in the Swiss sector and French rules on the French side. US citizens can stay in the Schengen Area without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The EU plans to launch ETIAS, an online travel authorization that will also cover Switzerland, in the last quarter of 2026.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I land in the Swiss or the French sector?
The Swiss one. You will clear customs at the FBO and get to Basel in about 15 minutes. The French sector makes more sense if you’re staying in Alsace, around Mulhouse or Colmar.
When is Basel busiest for private jets?
During Art Basel. In 2027, the fair runs from June 17 to 20, and ramp space at EuroAirport’s FBOs gets tight in the days before it opens. Basel Fasnacht is busy too. The carnival starts at 4 a.m. on the Monday after Ash Wednesday, and hotels in the Old Town fill up for all three days.
Can I bring my pet on a private jet to Basel?
If the operator allows pets on board, your dog or cat can fly in the cabin with you. The rules depend on where you fly from. Pets from the EU travel with an EU pet passport, a microchip, and a valid rabies vaccination. If you fly from the US, the UK, or other countries with low rabies risk, your pet also needs an official health certificate. The rabies shot must be given at least 21 days before the trip. Countries with a higher rabies risk have stricter rules, including a blood test done months in advance.
